When to Start Recertification
You may begin recertification training and pass the recertification test in your 9th year. For example, if your certification date is January 21, 2026, you may begin training on January 21, 2025 (your 9th year).
Recertification Requirements
Starting in your 9th year you may begin these requirements:
- Complete accredited NRCME training (like this one) – click here to register now.
- Upload your NRCME training certificate to your NRCME account.
- Wait 24 hours!
- Register for Prometric or PSI for your NRCME Test AND pass it before your expiration date.

Recertification FAQ
Q: What happens if I do not recertify?
A: You will be removed from the National Registry.
Q: What happens if I fail the NRCME Test?
A: During recertification, nothing. You will be able to retake the test the next day. It will not impact your certification status.
Q: What is my eligibility number?
A: This is just your NRCME number!
Q: After completing recertification, what is my expiration date?
A: No matter when you pass (prior to your expiration date), your new expiration date will be your current expiration plus 10 years.
